Introduction

RenoWise ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services.

This policy complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable privacy laws.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information

  • Account information (name, email address, password). You may also sign in using Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, in which case we receive your name and email from the respective provider.
  • Contact details (phone number, mailing address)
  • Payment information (processed securely through third-party payment processors)

1.2 Property Information

To provide cost estimates and energy analysis, we collect the property details you enter through our intake wizard. This includes approximately 40 fields:

  • Property addresses and descriptions
  • Building type, size, number of facades, window and roof characteristics, heating systems, and other physical attributes
  • Renovation project details and preferences
  • Photos uploaded for renovation planning
  • EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) data

1.3 Usage Data

  • Device information (device type, operating system, unique device identifiers)
  • App usage analytics via Firebase Analytics (anonymous — screen views, feature usage events, error reports, language preference, user type)
  • Advertising data via Google AdMob (banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads; AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data)
  • Location data (if you grant permission, for regional cost calculations)
  • Crash reports and diagnostic information

1.4 Device & Local Data

We store app settings (theme, region, currency), scenario caches, and saved inspiration photos locally on your device using SharedPreferences. This data never leaves your device.

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1 Service Provision (Legal Basis: Contract Performance)

  • Create and manage your account
  • Generate renovation cost estimates and scenarios

  • Sync your scenarios and estimates across devices when signed in
  • Connect you with contractors and service providers
  • Process payments for premium features

2.2 Service Improvement (Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest)

  • Analyze usage patterns to improve app functionality
  • Develop new features and services
  • Conduct research and analytics
  • Personalize your experience

2.3 Communication (Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest/Consent)

  • Send service-related notifications
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • Send marketing communications (with your consent)
  • Display relevant advertisements
  • Provide updates about changes to our services

2.4 Legal Compliance (Legal Basis: Legal Obligation)

  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data with:

3.1 Service Providers

  • Supabase (hosted on AWS) — Authentication and database hosting. See Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Firebase Analytics — Anonymous usage analytics. See Firebase Privacy.
  • Google AdMob — Advertising. See Google Privacy Policy.
  • VEKA Energie API — Anonymous building data is sent to the Flemish government's energy API for EPC calculations. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.
  • Pinterest — Search queries are sent to retrieve renovation inspiration photos. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.
  • Apple Sign-In & Google Sign-In — Authentication providers. Subject to Apple and Google privacy policies respectively.
  • Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal)
  • Customer support platforms

3.2 Contractors and Professionals

  • When you request quotes, we share relevant project information with selected contractors
  • You control which information is shared through consent prompts

3.3 Legal Requirements

  • When required by law, court order, or government request
  • To protect our rights, property, or safety

4. Data Storage & Security

Account data, properties, scenarios, and estimates are stored in a Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database. All data is protected by Row Level Security (RLS), meaning each user can only access their own data. All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • End-to-end encryption for sensitive data
  • Secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
  • Access controls and authentication mechanisms
  • Regular data backups with encryption

Local data (app settings, scenario caches, saved photos) is stored on your device via SharedPreferences and is not transmitted to our servers.

5. Guest Mode

You may use RenoWise without creating an account. In guest mode, all property data, scenarios, and estimates are stored locally on your device only. No personal data is sent to our servers. If you later create an account, locally stored data is not automatically migrated.

6. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access — Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification — Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") — Request deletion of your personal data. Available through Settings > Account > Delete Account.
  • Right to Data Portability — Receive your data in a machine-readable format. Transfer your data to another service.
  • Right to Object — Object to processing of your data for marketing purposes. Object to automated decision-making.
  • Right to Restrict Processing — Request limitation on how we use your data.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent — Withdraw consent for data processing at any time.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active
  • Project data: Retained for 5 years after project completion
  • Analytics data: Anonymized and retained for 2 years
  • Support communications: Retained for 3 years
  • Marketing data: Retained until you opt out

Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. When you delete your account, all associated data — including your profile, properties, scenarios, estimates, and settings — is permanently deleted from our servers. This action is irreversible.

Local data stored on your device can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data in your device settings.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your residence. We ensure adequate protection through:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
  • Adequacy decisions by relevant authorities

9. Children's Privacy

RenoWise is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected data from a child, we will delete it immediately.

10. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential functionality (authentication, session management)
  • Analytics and performance monitoring
  • Personalization and preferences

You can control cookies through your device settings. Disabling cookies may limit app functionality.

11. Third-Party Links

Our app may contain links to third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their privacy policies before providing personal information.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notifications, email notification, and an updated "Last Modified" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights:

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to know if personal information is sold or disclosed
  • Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights

We do not sell personal information.

14. European Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA):
